Scenography

The Biodiversity Atrium is the prelude to the permanent tour. This spectacular setting is the museum’s trailer, also visible from the street; it creates a dialogue between eras and testifies to the richness of biodiversity. The visitor’s view of this setting can be multi-faceted, provoking wonder, curiosity and questioning. Digital mediation accompanies the animals on display, enabling them to be viewed in their natural context. The rooms dedicated to the totem animals are interwoven with the atrium, positioned on the facade, and form the identity of the new museum. Original illustrations of their environment are created for each animal, creating a unique atmosphere. The permanent exhibition “Discovering the Animal World” presents the history of the collection and the classification of species. This 1st sequence begins on the 2nd floor with the historic Hermann room; the visit continues with sequence 2, the semi-permanent exhibition devoted to the Rhine, “discovering local ecosystems” and the development of the Rhine. On the 1st floor, the semi-permanent exhibitions “Oceans” and “Laboratories” can be visited independently or in sequence. Oral rooms are present in each sequence, providing a space for debate and synthesis. This is a project that aims to be friendly and accessible, where scientific and cultural mediation is central, and where the public can take time for discovery and exchange.
